Critical Thinking 4 - Planning
Goal Attainment Strategies
INSTRUCTIONS
Please read the education component below and answer the questions below. Educational Nugget of Gold: This is covered in Chapter 13
The change-oriented approaches aim to facilitate the attainment of goals or respond to a mandate in the case of involuntary
clients. The approaches are:
The task-centered model
○The crisis intervention model
○ The cognitive restructuring technique
○The solution-focused brief treatment model
○Case management practice
In planning goal attainment strategies, it is important to choose an intervention that makes sense to both the social worker and the client is also relevant to the client’s situation.
● In selecting the intervention, the social worker should ideally address the following questions:
○ Is the approach appropriate for addressing the problem and the service goals?
○ What empirical or conceptual evidence supports the effectiveness of the approach?
○Is the approach compatible with the basic ethics and values of social work?
○ Am I sufficiently knowledgeable and skilled enough in this approach to use it with others?
Remember this is worth
30 points and must be 250 to 350 words
to be considered substantive with at least one reference.
Choose one of the
Change-Oriented Approaches:
1. Explain in detail the approach.
2. Identify why you are most drawn to this approach?
3. Identify a client problem or situation in which this
approach may be used.
Do not forget to use references and cite accordingly.
Objectives ought to be
accomplished through the change oriented approach. The facilitation provided by
the existent models avail efficiency in outcome. The task centered model is
therefore an example of the change
oriented approaches to accomplish the goals.
The task centered model is based on several
tenets. These include the reduction of problems within a short time span. Clients
ought to take the initiative to identify the most Pertinent issues within the
collaborative relationship(Rooney, 2018) . It therefore puts emphasis on the
pertinence of the collaborative relationship. Therefore, the model is based on
the tenets above
The theoretical understanding of the model is
important for the comprehension of it’s utility and it is the core attraction
to the approach. The model can be
classified as an action oriented model with an eclectic design for proper
utility . The evidence base and use of the model indicates an empirical
establishment amongst diverse client populations(Rooney, 2018). It’s utility
and integration with other techniques ensures lower friction and increased
client engagement. Therefore, the theoretical understanding and the evidence of
employment are pertinent in the study.
The outcome of the utilization
are diverse. These include an improved performance of the academic institution
as well as a behavior modification within residential areas. Moreover, the
reduction of sibling conflict is properly observed(Rooney, 2018) . Moreover,
the model is especially effective with involuntary clients within the social
work setting.
The exploration of the task centered model
indicates the change oriented strategic input of the paradigm The change-oriented strategy should be used
to achieve goals. The existing models’ facilitation yields efficiency in
results. Thus, a change-oriented strategy to achieve the objectives is
exemplified by the task-centered model.
