For this
discussion, we’ll trouble ideas on a conceptual level. For those of you who are
in educational contexts, what is your vision of the nature of teaching? Of
learning? Of teachers and learners? For those of you in contexts outside of
education, think about this in terms of the nature of leadership and
follower-ship, of leaders and individuals and groups that they lead. How
is your conceptualization influenced by, aligned with, in opposition to the
philosophers or philosophical frameworks presented in this module? How do
you support your vision, both empirically (meaning, from the literature) and
philosophically (meaning, from your perspective)? Both of the Must Reads must
be cited and you can use any of the other references for the third reference.
Teaching as a profession
requires numerous adjustments to create a conducive environment for both
teachers and students. The nature of learning should be more democratic and
engage teachers and students in policy and regulations establishment. There
must be Democratic negotiations to enhance the professionalism of teaching.
Teachers' unions should not be limited to bargaining for better working
conditions, wages, or other benefits but also be included in establishing
teaching policies. Teachers are better positioned to make more valid policies
to enhance their performance. Therefore, to enhance learning, it is crucial to
enhance teachers' satisfaction, improving the relationship between teachers and
students (Strike, 1990). In addition, teachers should value their profession
and cease viewing it as a routine job. Teachers require the chance to examine
the problems and needs of their students and come up with the best solutions.
Hence, the education department should offer teachers needed support to enhance
their ability to perform better (Hansen,1994).
However, the conceptualization of the nature of teaching aligns with the
empirical materials since teaching is diverse and could take different forms,
although the main focus is to enhance learning. Teaching can be through
demonstration, reading, drawing, visual learning, or writing. However, one must
ensure that they intend to create logic and present it to the learners in an
understandable manner (Hirst,1971).
Hence, teaching entails equipping learners with appropriate concepts about a
particular topic, although teachers need more support and involvement.
