Critical Reflection

I am fortunate to have the opportunity to draw from the fascinating life and significant works of a specific character from the Beat Age by using Jack Kerouac as my source of inspiration for my arrangement of poems. Kerouac is renowned for his free-flowing prose; he wrote the entirety of his masterpiece "On the Road" on a single roll of paper. His writing regularly examined the pursuit of significance in a traditionalist culture, and his fervent ideas about chance, resistance, and otherworldliness continue to enthral readers today (Nicholson, 2020). Kerouac's creations are a prime source of inspiration and vigour. The ease of his composition immediately makes his energy, opportunity, and suddenness clear. In any case, he might have been experiencing a journey while recording his words—a remarkable ride that ended as he wrote (D'Alessandro, 2022). I needed to capture this suddenness and fire in my verse. While I was inspired by Kerouac's words, my sonnets have a completely distinct tone overall. My art aims to capture the energy of life's journey while keeping an eye out for the more esoteric perspectives that are frequently discovered in the midst of uncertainty and change (Phillips & Inslee, 2020). I wanted to create a sonnet collection that embodied experience, a desire for something new, introspection, and meditation while remaining grounded by fusing elements from realistic and ethereal sources (Villa-Vicencio, 2021). Without a doubt, Kerouac's writings and trip had an impact on my sonnets. The evolution of life's journey is captured in my sonnets in part because of his words, fervour, and energy. In any case, Kerouac's inventive and enthusiastic perspective, as well as his duty to unearth honest convictions despite obstacles, inspire me as I deal with murkier issues (Doyle, 2019). Despite the possibility that my compositions differ from Kerouac's in terms of general tone, it is clear that I was significantly influenced by his writing, particularly in my attempt to arouse and elicit thought from my readers through my poetry. In "Blunt Arrows," I aimed to encapsulate the feeling of loss and hopelessness in a passionate environment (Connolly-Zubot et al., 2020). I conveyed the speaker's mood of despair by evoking a sense of mystery and confusion with references to flowers, towers, and keys.
