The Forest Stewardship Council, founded in 1993 and
headquartered in Germany, was started to manage and maintain the half-decreased
and degraded global forests left. The international organization primarily aims
to manage global forests through the certification of timber. The certification
system is the leading global standard for managing forest-based production. The
organization's jurisdiction involves over 550 million forest acres. The
organization unites businesses, forest protector NGOs, consumers, producers of
forest-based products, and governments. This unity of stakeholders ensures the
healthy usage of forests for production, whereby the organization can harness
and influence tree-product market demands to limit excessive and unnecessary
usage. Through its multiple stakeholders, such as NGOs, production firms,
scientists and environmental experts, the international organization sets
regulatory standards that legitimize timber harvesting in appropriate settings
and amounts. Therefore, the Forest Stewardship Council's mission is to manage
global forests and influence the healthy use of forests, done through globally
accredited timber certification that ensures the correct usage and production
of forest-based products.
To ensure environmental quality in indoor spaces during construction, the 75% standard of daylights and views must be met for each building. The standard intends to ensure [A1] that buildings and their occupants have enough outdoor experience, [A2] especially in commonly occupied areas in a building. The calculation and measurement method is among the three ways of determining and documenting a building's satisfaction in meeting this standard. The standard is achieved by calculating a minimum glazing standard of 2% for at least 75% of commonly occupied areas. Glazing buildings is critical to ensuring their sustainability. Thus, a building's environmental quality is achieved through a minimum glazing percentage in most areas of new constructions and buildings.
