Assignment Content Prior to submitting this assignment, make sure you have completed the associated Learning Activities and Practices Exercises in the module. In this assignment, you have the opportunity to think holistically about the cultural context of rituals for body disposal in two different cultures – an archaeological example you choose, and your own subculture. Using Changing Funerary Trends from the “Bones Don’t Lie” blog as a model, you will explore how: Body disposal rituals are adaptations to environmental and social circumstances What these rituals imply about a culture’s spiritual worldview and beliefs about the supernatural Instructions Pick a topic from the list of suggested archaeological resources. Research one or more additional resources on the same topic. Be sure to use information from both sources in your analysis, and give full citations of each in your reference list. Write a 500-word essay addressing the following: Summarize the main points from each article. This summary should be about 1/4 of your paper. Cite your sources using MLA style and provide the link. In your analysis (1/2 of paper), explain how the main findings relate to themes from the course – these may include but are not limited to: spiritual worldview, myth, symbols, beliefs about bodies and souls, the afterlife, ethnocentrism, etc. Use at least 3 anthropological terms/ concepts from the course in your analysis. Bold these terms, and be sure to define them. Support your analysis with specific pieces of evidence from the articles, not simply opinion. Reflect on your own experiences with funeral rites (1/4 of paper) - what is the practice in your own subculture? Do you see any similarities to the articles and themes you analyzed? Are there important differences? How do your culture’s practices relate to your spiritual worldview?
