Discussion Unit 10 Based on your reading of Chapters 15 &13 what did you find meaningful and/or useful for your imagined professional self in the future (both in terms of workplace and role)? I am pursing a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy to be a licensed marriage and family therapist. Based on your reading of Chp 5, what aspect of your diversity might prove a challenge in a clinical context & how? And what might be an asset in a clinical context and how? (If you say "none", then tell us how come.) I attached the textbook.
This book offers valuable
insights into the profession. Therefore, this book provides insights into
therapists' role in custody hearings and as consultants, the challenge of
racial diversity, and how multiculturism may benefit
this profession. One of the things meaningful from this reading was how it
portrayed the role of therapists during custody trials and as consultants. With
the changing work dynamics, marriage and family therapists often occupy
consultant positions. The AAMFT and all other codes utilized in this field
argue that as consultants, these individuals are liable for their actions in
the same respect that employees would (Koocher & Keith-Spiegel, 2008).
Therefore, as a consultant, family, and marriage therapist has a duty to their clients,
which contradicts the norm in other settings. Additionally, it is imperative to
exercise high caution and adhere to professional guidelines when embarking on child
custody cases, which are a common source of ethics complaints (Koocher & Keith-Spiegel,
2008).This is valuable information since, with the high prevalence of
divorce, future family therapists must be involved in these cases. Generally,
the book provides insights into handling legal and work-related challenges that
will significantly impact my future practice.
