This case features Steven, whose teacher claims is constantly
worried, tense, seems fearful of most new classroom activities, and easily
cries. He often complains of an upset stomach and visits the nurse's office. In
the initial session, he opens up about not wanting to be away from home,
fearing his little sister and mother will be in danger. Steven is Mexican American
and aged 12. His father is often away on business-related trips, during which
Steven tries to keep watch by staying awake the whole night while grabbing his
baseball bat for protection. Nonetheless, Steven begs that his parents should
not be informed. Using the Steve case study, one can identify how to use the
ethical code and its guiding principles and standards, state laws, and the
ethical decision-making model in finding the right course of action.
