This assignment
aligns with CACREP (2016) standard(s): CACREP 5.C.2.c - mental health service delivery modalities
within the continuum of care, such as inpatient, outpatient, partial treatment
and aftercare, and the mental health counseling services networks Before you
can evaluate a research article, it is important to know how to read a research
article. Read the Hudson-Barr (2004) article before you read the Flannery et
al. (2011) article. Articles to Review: Hudson-Barr, D. (2004). How to read a
research article. Journal for Specialists in Pediatric Nursing, 9(2), pp. 70-72.
Flannery, F., Adams, D., & O’Connor, N. (2011, February). A community
mental health service delivery model: Integrating the evidence base within
existing clinical models. Australasian Psychiatry, 19(1), 49-55. https://doi.org/10.3109/10398562.2010.539220 Important:
To find the Hudson-Barr
Scientific
inquiry through clear and easy-to-understand literature review formats is
integral to facilitating evidence-based learning and evidence-based practice in
nursing. In this case, a review of mental health service delivery modes by
Flannery, Adams & O'Connor (2011) is done to determine the performance of
different service delivery methods in an urban setting. Thus, it is critical to
use precise methods of reviewing the literature to quickly grasp and understand
the study and its findings on these various mental care delivery methods.
A review of the
study by Flannery, Adams & O'Connor (2011) indicates the various mental
care delivery models and their performance and concludes that an integrated
model of mental health care in urban communities is the best delivery model.
According to Hudson‐Barr (2004), the best manner to
review any academic study is to determine the core and principle format used in
the literature and first review the conclusion segments of the study to
determine its significance. Hence, to determine the paper's significance, a
review of the abstract and the discussion is mainly focused on. These
conclusive parts indicate the paper's research question, the study's
limitations, and any further recommendations. In this case, although the
research question is not clearly defined nor easily identified, the research
objective is precise and concise. Flannery, Adams & O'Connor (2011)
indicates the main objectives of the research as an evaluation of mental health
service delivery methods and the determination of the best model in an urban or
metropolitan community. Furthermore, the study illustrates an integrated model
that consists of emergency response services, continuous mental health care
services, the use of rehabilitation teams, and the formation of cooperations
and partnerships with medical and human service firms. However, the study is
limited to evaluating the performance of each care delivery effort since each
has its own dynamic limitation according to its cost, resources, and political
elements. Thus, the paper is not exhaustive in determining each model and gives
recommendations for future research to determine the whole dynamics of each
model and determine gap analysis. Therefore, the paper is well structured in
its abstract and conclusion in determining the best forms of care delivery and
advises evidence-based practice in using integrated models for mental health
care.
The study by
Flannery, Adams & O'Connor (2011) determines that the best method of
maintaining mental health care in metropolitan communities involves using
integrated services. These integrated services are mainly composed of emergence
and acute services, continuing care, and rehabilitation, including intervention
programs, especially for young people, and the formation of partnerships with
community mental health care providers.
