The
video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5a9AQeSFI1Y discusses
three models of communication --Linear, Interactional, and Transactional.
Understanding that these different models of communication have distinct
settings and expections, how has this changed your views on communication? Do
you think we have a tendency to see public speaking as more linear, and
overlook the transactional process of "give and
take" between the speaker and the audience? What role do you think noise
plays in public speaking environments? Keeping the Transactional Model in
mind, what steps do you think you can take as a speaker to enhance
communication with your audience particularly if you are in an online course?
Your post should be approximately 250 words.
Communication involves
transferring information from one party to another and can occur through the
linear, interactive, and transactional models. In the linear model, a sender
sends a message to a recipient through a channel such as social media or
face-to-face interaction. In this model, our emotional and psychological states
determine how different people interpret information (“The 3 Models of Communication”, 2018). The interactive model
incorporates feedback from the message recipients through verbal and non-verbal
communication. Here, the environment determines how information is decoded by
the recipients (“The 3 Models of
Communication”, 2018). Finally, the transactional communication model,
an advancement of the interactive model, states that the conversation participants
can be senders and recipients, respectively (“The 3 Models of Communication”, 2018). The three communication
models have influenced my view on communication and can be modified in settings
such as public speaking for optimal results.
