Article Critique

The paper evaluates the influences of social need screening and physical service navigation on a youngster’s wellbeing. It emphasizes how social factors of health form youngsters’ direct-health and their overall risk for infection. As such, healthcare institutions must intervene in the onset of these risks through pediatric care to address social adversity in the household (Gottlieb et al.). Regarding risks, the article highlights how low-income and racial minority communities are disproportionately affected by childhood socioeconomic adversities, negatively affecting health. For instance, childhood exposures to aspects like family economic strain and housing instability have been associated with a higher risk of cognitive deficiencies, socio-emotional behavior issues, short- and long-standing infantile disorders, as well as early death later in life (Gottlieb et al.). The study also demonstrated that, regardless of the form of adversity, the likelihood of unfavorable health effects increases as exposure to them increases (Gottlieb et al.). Since the main emphasis has been on evaluating intervention processes in social needs, calls for mediations tackling social variables as part of daily child health care have been sparked by the rising appreciation of the effect of adversity on biological operations and health.
