Facilitative process
intervention entails the steps taken in determining how things are conducted in
a group. First, groups are formed by different people with different
personalities and beliefs. Hence, the fundamental issues include managing
interpersonal relationships, dealing with external pressure in achieving their
targets, and defining boundaries to sustain each member's identity (Gallos, 2006). Maintaining
group boundaries involves defining the people who should be included in the
group, establishing a process for boundary management, and considering the
systematic approach to setting boundaries. Secondly, to accomplish the group
task, it should develop a plan and design the process for decision making and
problem-solving, which could involve problem formulation, giving suggestions
for a solution, forecasting outcomes, taking action and evaluating the results,
and establishing an organizational structure to deal with recurring task
processes (Gallos, 2006).
The third domain is managing the group and enhancing interpersonal
interactions, which should entail the attitude the group members have towards
each other, the interpersonal processes, and the establishment of formal rules
that enhance interpersonal relationships and the legal law. Therefore, facilitative
process intervention involves the creation of content, function, and structure,
which consists of setting boundaries for the group, establishing the group's
plan and system, and managing interpersonal relationships.
